
Wisconsin Police Department Warns Of Online Vehicle Scam
Another day, another scam. That's just the way of the world these days. While scams used to be pretty easy to spot, that is definitely not the case these days.
There are always so many scams going around, especially in Minnesota and Wisconsin. There's even a ton of scams in the Northland. It doesn't matter where you live - there's going to be a scam.

There are also scams on social media. For example, scammers are selling used cars on Facebook in Minnesota, with scammers selling vehicles that have been tampered with or stolen. Wow!
Now, there's another major scam reported in Wisconsin. You have to be aware of this one because it could happen anywhere else in the state or the region. It always pays to brush up on the latest scam.
New Scam Reported In Winneconne, Wisconsin - What To Know
This scam was reported on social media by the local police department, calling it a public service announcement for locals. According to their post, a resident recently reported this scam and it has to do with a vehicle on Facebook Marketplace.

The resident told police that the scammer asked for a gift card to 'hold' the vehicle for purchase. They asked for all the gift card information, meaning the victim had to purchase it and then share the information with the scammer.
What happened next? The person sent the gift card codes in order to 'hold' this car they saw online only for the scammer to tell them that they needed more money for storage and delivery fees. As you can imagine, the victim never got the car and were out money from the gift cards.

The Winneconne Police Department wants to remind everyone that real car dealers will never request payment from gift cards and you should not pay for anything this way, especially online.
When it comes to a purchase as big as a vehicle, only purchase one from a place or person you trust. And as the golden rule of scams goes, make sure that you hang up if something seems fishy, do your own research and act accordingly.
