Minnesota Has Big $1 Million Winner In The Monday Powerball
While it's great to see someone win big playing the Powerball lottery, it's extra special when a big winning ticket is purchased in a small town and that's the exact scenario that played out on Monday in Minnesota.
On Monday night, the Powerball jackpot had reached an estimated $645 million. The numbers for the March 18 drawing were 10,17, 20, 39, and 44 and the Powerball number was 16.
To win $1 million, you'd need to match 5 of the 5 numbers, but not the Powerball number, meaning you're just one number away from scoring $645 million, and a ticket purchased in a smaller Minnesota city did just that.
Where Was The $1 Million Winning Ticket Purchased?
Zumbro Falls is a city along the Zumbro River in Wabasha County, Minnesota and its population was 207 at the 2010 census. According to the Minnesota Lottery, the $1 million winning ticket was purchased at Fall's Standard, a BP gas station located at 225 Highway 63.
Hopefully whoever purchased the winning ticket realizes it and claims their big payday soon. However, unless the winner decides to come forward publicly, we may never know who they are.
There are regulations to protect lottery winners who win over $10,000 because big-money winners can become targets for scammers and fraud, so the Minnesota Lottery will not divulge their name unless they first agree to it.
The next Powerball drawing will occur at 9:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. The current estimated jackpot is $687 million, with a cash value of over $327 million, but that number is likely to grow before the drawing.
