Undated (KROC AM News) –  For most motorists, it only takes a second or two to fasten their safety belts. And that second or two can be the difference between life and death in traffic mishaps.

That's the message from the Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety as law enforcement agencies around the state are conducting another enforcement campaign aimed at motorists who are not using their safety belts.

Minnesota has had a mandatory seat belt law since 2009. The Minnesota Dept. of Public Safety says 152 motorists who were not seatbelted were killed in traffic wrecks in 2008. That number had fallen to 92 in 2018. The department says over the last five years nearly 450 unbelted motorists have died in traffic accidents.

The annual “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign runs through June 2nd.
