If you’re a red-blooded American dude, I’m guessing the odds are fairly high that you’ve set off a firework or two in your time. Getting to blow stuff up is never not fun. Other than beer and outdoor barbecues, shooting off fireworks is one of the best parts about the Fourth of July – provided you’re able to keep all of your fingers at the end of the day.

So for me, it was a bit of a bummer when Minnesota outlawed the purchase of bottle rockets and Roman candles, to name a few. Bottle rockets were the first fireworks I ever got to shoot off as an older kid, after all! And I’m always down to light up a Roman candle. I get the whole safety aspect, but come on. I say just be careful and use ‘em at your own peril.

So that's why some Minnesota lawmakers are looking to overturn that ban for one obvious reason: A lot of Minnesotans (*cough*) just simply drive to North Dakota or Wisconsin to buy those illegal fireworks. The main argument, other than the fun, is that Minnesota is losing out on the sales tax from those bottle rockets. Supporters of the ban argue that the safety risks aren't worth it, so it could be a long shot.

I personally hope this ends up happening. Fingers crossed. All 8 of them!
