Is Rochester Native Marcus Sherels Leaving the Minnesota Vikings?
This would be a huge blow to the team and his home town fans, including myself.
Since I moved back to Rochester three years ago, I've had the opportunity to get to know Marcus through various events and interviews. But even outside of those work functions, he's always been a class act towards me and my friends. So when I saw a recent tweet about him possibly signing with another team this off-season, I had to click on it fast to find out more.
I then did a quick google search, and I found out that there were rumors that he'd signed with the Carolina Panthers. Thankfully those reports turned out to be false, however, it doesn't appear the Vikings are looking to re-sign the teams all-time leader in punt return yards and touchdowns any time soon.
Two years ago he signed a multi-year deal paying him $2 million per season so perhaps he's just getting too "rich" for the team. But if you think cutting the most successful special teams player in Vikings history, and a fan favorite when he's still only 30 years old is a smart business deal then I'm not going to argue with you.
What I do know is you're going to have one upset fan-base, particularly here in Rochester. The good thing is I know those same people will still cheer on #35 wherever he goes, and for whoever he's playing for because he's a good player and even better person.
No matter what happens between now and training camp - Good luck, Marcus!
