St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News)- The State Patrol is reporting the icy conditions that developed across southern Minnesota contributed to hundreds of crashes and the tally continues to climb this afternoon.

The State Patrol reported in the late morning, that between 5 AM and 10 AM there had been nearly 360 traffic crashes, almost 150 vehicle spinouts, and 13 jackknifed semi-trucks. Two of the crashes resulted in deaths and there were 34 involving injuries. The majority of the crashes have been in the Twin Cities area, where the Minnesota Department of Transportation is advising against any travel and bus service has been suspended.

The National Weather Service issued winter weather advisories for about half of Minnesota due to the slippery conditions, while an ice storm warning is in effect in the far southwestern corner of the state and a winter storm warning has been posted for much of western and northern Minnesota. Forecasters say areas included in the storm warning could end up with close to a foot of new snow from the weather system.
