High-Speed Chase Ends in Owatonna Cornfield

Two Owatonna men were charged with fleeing officers after a recent high-speed chase that ended north of Owatonna off Cedar. Canine Vegas and a drone from the Rice County Sheriff's Office were instrumental in apprehension of the two. The Owatonna Police Department's Just the Facts newsletter reports the incident began with an attempted traffic stop for a vehicle driving without its lights on.

"As officers initiated the stop near Hoffman Drive and North Street, the suspect vehicle sped away. A pursuit ensued that left the city limits on North Cedar at speeds of approximately 120 miles per hour. The pursuit led to 4190 50th Street NE, a temporary housing complex used by seasonal workers."

Officers found the abandoned vehicle there. "Canine Vegas was summoned to the scene and tracked suspects to a corn field," states Just the Facts. The drone used thermal imaging to further track the men. Twenty-five year old Isai Carreon and 19-year old Anthony Gaytan were each charged with fleeing officers.

The newsletter reports officers Luke Selvik, Brian Shaw and Gabby Fleming paid a visit to Kid's Korner to give children a tour of their cars and hand out junior officer police stickers.

Just the Facts says Nancy Deetz is moving out of the area after years of service with the police department as member of the chaplain program, "in fact, Nancy was one of the founding members. We are thankful for the many years Nancy donated her services to provide this important chaplain service...We wish Nancy well as she moves to Nebraska to be closer to her family."
