Governor Walz Starts New Hunting Tradition
Northfield, MN (KROC AM News) - It was a first on Saturday for Minnesota hunters.
Minnesota’s governors have traditionally observed a Fishing Opener, a Deer Opener and more recently, a Pheasant Opener.
On Saturday, Gov. Tim Walz took part in the state’s first ever Turkey Opener. Walz led a party of gobbler hunters who set out well before sunrise in the Northfield area. Like many of the state’s estimated 50,000 turkey hunters, Walz came home empty-handed and it’s not known if he plans another outing.
Minnesota’s turkey hunting season runs through May 31.
