Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Downtown Rochester was the site of a protest today over the officer-involved death of George Floyd.

A crowd of 100 or more demonstrators marched to the Government Center and chanted "I can't breathe" and "no justice, no peace" to passing motorists in a scene that mirrored protests that have taken place in Minneapolis and many other cities in the aftermath of the 46-year-old man's death Monday evening.

Rochester Police worked with the organizers of the demonstration and police vehicles escorted the participants as they marched through the downtown area.

Meanwhile, an online vigil honoring George Floyd is planned in Rochester tomorrow evening. Representatives of a number of groups, including the local NAACP, the Diversity Council, and Rochester for Justice, will be gathering for an event that will be live-streamed on Facebook beginning at 6 PM.

A live video posted to the NewsTalk 1340 KROC AM & 96.9 FM Facebook page shows the protestors marching from Soldiers Field crossing 6th St. SW on N. Broadway Ave just after 3:30 PM headed to the Government Center on 4th St. SE.

Protesters arrived at the Government Center around 3:45 PM where they demonstrated peacefully chanting, among other things, "Minnesota stand up" and "We demand a change." After about 20 minutes, the group began marching east on 4th Street SE, eventually circling back arriving in the downtown area and the Government Center once again at about 5:00 PM.
