Good luck trying to find a drive-in. But locating an outdoor movie is still possible. Owatonna Parks and Recreation hosts an opportunity or two each year, as do other communities. The University of Minnesota is jumping into the outdoor movie trend as well.

The Gophers Athletics Department announced it will host a movie night Tuesday, July 30 at TCF Bank Stadium, home of the Golden Gopher football team. The movie Incredibles 2 will be shown at 7 pm on the big screen. Doors open at 6 pm and it is free of charge. Some concessions will be available and no outdoor food or beverage will be allowed.

The news release from the university indicates paid parking will be available at the Maroon Lot, the Gopher Lot and Lot 37. The department will be enforcing the same bag policy that exists during a Gopher football game. Fans can bring chairs or blankets, but chairs that could damage the football turf will not be allowed.

Thanks to use of the mega screen at TCF, there is no need to wait until sundown as many community outdoor movies must wait for in order to see the feature properly.

I can remember the days when my dad would load my little brother and me up into the family station wagon and go out to the Hibbing Drive-In. He hung the speaker on the window and we tried in vain to hear the movie through the scratchy device. I can also recall a few shenanigans when I was a teenager going to the drive-in as well, such as sneaking friends into the movie in the trunk of the car!

I'm hoping my daughter, who is a student at the U, might want to go down memory lane with her dad and go watch a movie Tuesday. No trunk necessary. But we might zip around on those Lime Scooters if time permits.
