Can you believe we are talking about high school sports already? It doesn't seem long ago that we were calling baseball and softball games. Now, we are setting up for the Volleyball season.

The Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll was released yesterday for all three classes, and four Southeast Minnesota squads cracked the rankings.

In Class 1A, Caledonia came in at #5, the Warriors fell in the Section Title game to Bethlehem Academy last season. BA comes in at number 9. The Warriors bring a lot of talent back and look like the front-runners in Section 1.

Mabel-Canton came in at #8 and will look to make some noise again in Section 1A. The SEC Champions will again battle Caledonia and many other area teams for the crown of Section 1.

Kasson-Mantorville and Stewartville came in at #2 and #3, respectively. The two state powerhouses always seem to reload, despite the departure of some key players. Expect these two squads to be eyeing the Section 1AA Championship as the season comes to a close in October.

It is never too early to be thinking about sports, even though it means summer is making its way to the end! Section 1AA and 1A looked to be stacked again this year, which should make for some interesting volleyball as the season goes on next month.
