Four Minnesota Toys R Us Stores To Close In 2018
Toys R Us is closing 180 stores across the country, according to CNBC, with four of them being in Minnesota. Is Rochester's location on the list?
Thankfully, it is not. The four locations in Minnesota that are close are all to our north, in Richfield, Minnetonka, Woodbury and Blaine.
Toys R Us filed for bankruptcy about four months ago, right before the holiday shopping season kicked off. Toys R Us was struggling with sales and their debt was beginning to pile up, so they filed for bankruptcy.
Toys R Us plans to re-brand themselves by creating a better experience for customers both in-store and online, while they also plan on changing up their loyalty program to get more customers.
"The reinvention of our brands requires that we make tough decisions about our priorities and focus," Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David Brandon wrote Tuesday in a memo to customers. "The actions we are taking are necessary to give us the best chance to emerge from our bankruptcy proceedings as a more viable and competitive company."
The closures still need to be court approved, but they are planning on starting to close stores come early February.
For now, the Rochester location is safe, and without another Toys R Us location anywhere near Rochester, it is safe to say that store should remain open for the long haul.
