Four Minnesota Beers Were Winners at Great American Beer Festival
In the nation's largest beer festival, four Minnesota beers were just rated some of the best in the country!
Even though I'm from Wisconsin, the state that's long been proud of its tradition of brewing beer, I've been saying for a while now that some of the best craft beers can be found right here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. And now you don't just have to take my word for it, either.
That's because at the Great American Beer Festival, four beers from right here in the North Star State took home medals-- meaning, yeah, they're some of the best beers you can find anywhere in the good 'ol U S of A.
This year's Great American Beer Festival took place in Denver, from October 3rd through the 5th. And it featured a LOT of beer. In fact, this story from The Growler, a magazine about Minnesota's craft beer scene, said there were just under 9,500 beers represented at the festival.
So the fact that four Minnesota beers took home medals is pretty impressive, if you ask me. The Growler said St. Paul’s Barrel Theory Beer Company took home a gold medal in the specialty Berliner category for their Midwest Exotic, a beer they describe as "a gose with calamansi, blood orange, tangerine, and peach," the story noted. I've been to Barrel Theory a couple of times and thought their beers were really good.
Also winning a gold medal was the Bobbing Bobber Brewing Company out of Hutchinson, which won top honors for its beer called Tackle Bock, the story said. (I've not had any Bobbing Bobber beer, but now I'm thinking I've gotta plan a trip up there!) And two other Minnesota breweries, Spilled Grain Brewhouse from Annandale and Ursa Minor Brewing in Duluth won silver medals at the GABF this year too.
