Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Fire Department says one person was transported to St. Mary's hospital for treatment after firefighters responded this morning to a residence near the Northrop Community Education Center.

A news release says the fire was reported just before 10:30 a.m. at 1104 5th Avenue Northwest. The responding firefighters found thick smoke coming from an attached garage and the front door of the house. They also quickly determined that all 5 occupants of the home had evacuated. Information about injuries suffered by the person who was transported to the hospital and their medical condition is not available.

The fire destroyed the garage and a breezeway connecting it to the house. The fire department estimates 25-percent of the house sustained heavy fire damage and there was smoke and water damage throughout the home. A dollar estimate of the damage is not yet available in the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
