Fast Start Leads Goodhue Past Houston
The #2 seeded Goodhue Wildcats scored quickly and in bunches, as they took down #7 seeded Houston 68-37 in the Mayo Civic Auditorium Wednesday night.
Houston scored the first point of the game, but from there Goodhue started the game on a 23-2 run to open up a 23-3 lead in a hurry. With over 8 minutes to play in the half, the Wildcats built a 20-point lead and much of it came on the inside.
Lexie Lodermeier led the way for Goodhue with 16 points in the first half, which saw Goodhue lead 38-14.
Houston was not able to hit shots early in the game, and credit goes to Goodhue's defense as they were able to force turnovers and get their offense going in transition. In the second half, Houston went on a short burst to trim the lead to 40-22, but Goodhue came right back.
The Wildcats used their height advantage with Lodermeier on the inside to get a 68-37 win. Lodermeier finished with 25 points, while Joslyn Carlson added in 15 for Goodhue. Houston was led by Rostad's 16 points in a great effort from the senior that hit two 3's from way downtown. Emma Geiwitz added nine for the Hurricanes.
Goodhue will take on #3 Hayfield in the Section Semifinals Saturday evening at 6:30.
