St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Commerce Department is reporting stability in the state’s marketplace for small group and individual health plans for 2021.

Officials say every county in the state will have at least two insurers offering individual health coverage, and 80 of the 87 counties will have plans offered by three or more insurers. 11 insurers are offering plans through MNSure next year. The Commerce Department says Blue Plus and Medica plans will be available statewide, while Group Health from HealthPartners and UCare are expanding their service areas and Quartz is entering the market in Minnesota for the first time.

“In a year of so much uncertainty, stability in Minnesota’s health insurance market is welcome,” added Temporary Commissioner Arnold. “However, many Minnesotans still struggle to afford health insurance, due to a combination of expensive premiums, out-of-pocket costs and COVID-19 related financial challenges.”

The premium rates for those health plans will also be fairly stable. In the individual coverage market, the rate changes range from a slight decrease of less than 1-percent to an increase of just over 4.2-percent. In the small group market, the rate changes range from a nearly 5-percent increase to a drop of 1.6-percent.

Minnesotans will be able to view and compare the plans available in their counties through MNsure starting on October 12th. The open enrollment period begins on November 1st.
