During a Friday night (March 8) show at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Eric Church and backup singer Joanna Cotten paid tribute to country superstar Shania Twain -- an Ontario native -- with a harmony-filled duet version of her hit song “No One Needs to Know.” Readers can press play above to watch the moment.

“No One Needs to Know” was the sixth single off of Twain’s sophomore album, The Woman in Me. It spent a week at number one in July of 1996. Although it’s less obvious than some of Twain’s later hits, the catchy tale of a cautious yet idealistic lover is likely still etched in the minds of even the most causal ‘90s country music fans.

Church’s dual role as a guitar-slinging troubadour and an arena rock showman suits a song from Twain’s incredible run of commercial success. Cotten, fresh off a live duet of the Beatles’ “Come Together” with Church that caught plenty of press attention, reminds us that she’s a vocal powerhouse capable of doing Church’s covers repertoire justice.

That’s not to paint Cotten as nothing more than Church’s on-hand cover song interpreter: She contributes live to such Church standards as “Kill a Word,” “That’s Damn Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Over When It’s Over.”

Church's Toronto stop was part of his ongoing Double Down Tour. He’s playing two-night-stands at arenas across North America in support of the 2018 album Desperate Man. The tour, which also included a March 9 show at Scotiabank Arena, continues through June.
