Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A former Eyota man was recently sentenced to 5 years in prison for convictions connected to a couple domestic violence incidents last year.

Under a plea agreement, 38-year-old Ramon Ruiz admitted to a pair of felony charges involving the unlawful possession of firearms. One of the cases was in Wabasha County and the other was in Olmsted County. In the Rochester case, Ruiz originally faced multiple counts of second-degree assault and domestic assault, along with a single felony terroristic threats charge. Those charges were dropped and prosecutors also agreed not to pursue felony charges in two other cases under investigation.

Ruiz was accused of confronting and threatening an ex-girlfriend in the parking lot at her place of employment. The police reports on the incident indicated she was in her car and drove to the nearby Lowe’s Store before returning and parking her car in an underground garage at The Boulders apartment complex.

Ruiz followed her into the parking structure and resumed confronting the woman until a co-worker interceded. The co-worker told police Ruiz responded by pulling out a handgun and threatening to “shoot this place up” while waving the weapon. He drove away before police arrived at the scene, but was captured a few days following a police chase in the Mankato area.
