Does Minnesota Have Its Own ‘Nessie’ In Lake Pepin?
We've heard a lot of myths about "Nessie", the famous "Loch Ness Monster" in Scotland - but does Minnesota have it's own "Nessie" in Rochester's backyard?
Lake City is where a lot of folks from Rochester go to relax. It's less than an hour from us. A lot of us dock our boats there. We do this on Lake Pepin and love to fish while doing it! The "birthplace of waterskiing" might be famous for something else soon. Pepie.
Some of you may have heard of "Pepie" already, but if you haven't - picture the monster as our version of "Nessie" right here in Minnesota.
Mysterious Universe explains, "Pepie has its roots in history. According to newspaper accounts, in the 1600s a Frenchman, Father Louis Hennepin, claimed to see “a huge serpent as big as a man’s leg and seven or eight feet long” in the area where the lake is now." Since then, Pepie has been "sighted" ever so often by tourists and locals alike.
Perhaps a more realistic theory is identifying the "monster" as a really big sturgeon or alligator gar. That's what locals think anyway. Get more history on Pepie here.
Do you think this surviving plesiosaur really exists?
