Dierks Bentley gave fans an impromptu surprise with a cover of Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places" during a concert in Reno, Nev., on Saturday night (Feb. 16). Readers can press play above to watch a snippet of his spur-of-the-moment performance.
"So this happened tonight .... Someone threw me a hat and I proceeded to talk about growing up in Arizona, occasionally riding horses and wearing a cowboy hat when I went to see Garth Brooks at 17," Bentley posted on his Instagram account, along with a video clip of the performance. "The guys started playing a little bit of friends in low places and I took the bait ..."
Brooks originally released "Friends in Low Places" in August of 1990, and it quickly became a massive hit and one of the country legend's signature songs. The track spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and was also named Single of the Year at the ACM and CMA Awards.
Bentley makes a habit of playing covers during his live performances, among other spur-of-the-moment fan interactions; it's all part of what makes his 2019 Burning Man Tour one not to miss. Bentley appeared in Reno with tourmates Jon Pardi, Tenille Townes and the Hot Country Knights, the country cover band fronted by his own hilarious '90s alter-ego.
The 2019 Burning Man Tour is just picking up steam, and is set to keep rocking through the summer and into Bentley's Seven Peaks Music Festival. The second annual fest is scheduled to take place in Colorado on Labor Day Weekend.
