St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - For the first time in two weeks, Minnesota’s daily death toll related to the coronavirus pandemic did not reach the double-digits on Monday.

The Minnesota Department of Health today reported 9 COVID-19 deaths in the state, which raised the total to 428. The deaths reported Monday was the lowest since April 20th.

While the number of deaths dropped, the number of people sick from the viral infection requiring treatment in an intensive care unit has hit new highs in each of the last three days. The total reported today was 166, while the total number of people hospitalized was 230.

The State Health Department reported 571 new confirmed cases of the illness in Minnesota today. That pushed the cumulative total above 7200 even though the overall number of tests conducted statewide dropped for a third consecutive day after ramping up nearly all of last week.

The daily report from state health officials also shows the number of people listed as recovered and no longer requiring isolation has shot up for 2 straight days. Almost 1200 people were added to the list today after it grew by over 600 yesterday and the total now exceeds 4200 people.

Olmsted County has now seen over 300 confirmed coronavirus cases. There were 12 new cases reported today, which raised the overall total to 305 with 8 deaths.
