Claremont, MN (KROC-AM News) - The crash this morning that closed down Highway 14 at Claremont for hours claimed the life of a young child.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 8-year-old Emerson Melissa Harbert was a passenger in a car that was smashed into from behind by a Hummer. The crash occurred as both vehicles were headed west on the highway when the driver of the car, 43-year-old Rachel Harberts of Dodge Center, stopped to make a left turn at the east edge of Claremont around 7:10 am.

The little girl was pronounced dead at the scene, while Harberts and another passenger in her car, 12-year-old Jaxon Harberts, suffered life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital.

The State Patrol says the driver of the Hummer, 24-year-old Tanner Kruckeberg of Dodge Center, had non-life threatening injuries that did not apparently require medical treatment.
