Carnahan To Run For Her Late Husband’s MN Congressional Seat
St Paul (KROC AM News) - The widow of the late Congressman Jim Hagedorn has decided to run for the now-vacant seat.
In a press release, Jennifer Carnahan has announced she will file as a candidate for the 1st Congressional District seat.
It had been held by her Republican husband until he lost his battle with kidney cancer last month.
Carnahan is joining a crowded race for the seat. She will become the 9th candidate to seek the Republican endorsement.
Filings close Tuesday.
A primary will be held in May to narrow the list of Republican and Democratic candidates. A special election for the seat will be held on Aug 9th.
Carnahan was elected chair of the state Republican Party of Minnesota in 2017 and held the position until she resigned last August after a significant donor was charged with sex trafficking involving minors.
