THE COFFEE CAN HAS A LIFE PURPOSE

I've lived in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee and Minnesota. I think that's all? Well...regardless, for some reason, I've never seen other people in other states put their bacon grease in coffee cans. Is this a Minnesota thing? Did we start this? I get that we don't want grease to go down our kitchen drains. My poor Dad learned the hard way, that I Obviously didn't get the fact that the oil would harden into a thick paste and back up our pipes. Sorry Dad. I truly don't remember doing it; But yes...HE remembers. Of all the things he remembers...he also remembers all the stupid things I've done in the past.

WHY DO WE SAVE BACON GREASE?

Regardless...that doesn't necessarily answer the question. Why do we even SAVE bacon grease? Do you reuse it? What do you cook with bacon grease? I've actually used it for lots of fried things, but I have NO idea how long you can use it, and maybe you don't. Maybe a coffee can was just the easiest way to harden the grease every time you make bacon, and eventually you just throw it away.

UNDER THE KITCHEN SINK

That would explain why MOST people keep this container of grease under their kitchen sink.  I keep mine on the kitchen counter, and use it sometimes to add a little flavor to hamburgers, or sometimes as a bit of a great flavor for my green beans?

Do you use bacon grease? If not, how do you dispose of it? Do you wait til it hardens in the pan and then throw it in the garbage? I truly believe that the coffee can has found its calling in life.
