Grasston, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in Pine County have yet to release the name of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a vehicle just moments after his dog was struck by a car.

The Pine County Sheriff's Office says the deadly incident occurred Saturday evening near the east-central Minnesota town of Grasston, Despite the efforts of bystanders and deputies, CPR and other life-saving measures were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead.

An investigation determined the victim responded to his dog being hit by a car by trying to remove his pet from the roadway. That is when he was struck by a second vehicle.

A news release says the driver who struck the man stopped immediately and tried to assist the victim. Officials also indicate the motorist is cooperating with investigators and it does not appear alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in the tragedy.
