Watch the Rochester Honkers Fireworks Finale
Mayo Field in Rochester was the place to be Saturday night for anyone who considers themselves a fan of fireworks displays. The Rochester Honkers, as part of the team’s fan appreciation night, put on an impressive pyrotechnics show at the end of their home game against the Mankato Moondogs.
Even though the Honkers dropped their final two games of the season and failed to make a Northwoods League playoffs, the Rochester squad did end up with bragging rights for having the league’s Most Valuable Player on the roster. First baseman Zach Zubia hit 22 home runs this summer, which set a new Northwoods league single-season record. He also set new league record with 41 extra-base hits and established by half a dozen single-season team records for the Honkers.
Another Honker, who is a member of the teams off field staff, was named the Co-Play-by-Play Announcer of the Year for the Northwoods league. It was the second season in the broadcast booth for Michael Keeley.
