Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The two men who died after being found unresponsive in a garage in Eyota last Saturday were victims of a fatal drug overdose.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office released that information Friday after receiving preliminary autopsy results in the deaths of 43-year-old Anthony Holzer and 38-year-old Brandon Mueller.

Mueller died at the scene and Holzer later died at St. Marys Hospital. A third man was also taken to the hospital but has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

Holzer lived at the house where the deadly incident occurred.

Sheriff’s Capt. Jim Schueller says the two victims died as a result of overdoses of controlled substances, specifically cocaine intoxication. Schueller says “the preliminary results do not specifically cover other potential substances that could be present in the cocaine, or another standalone substance that contributed to or caused the deaths.”

The Sheriff’s Office says it may take as long as 3 months to get final results.

Schueller says the information is being released “out of concern for public safety in hopes that no other victims are affected by potentially dangerous controlled substances, whether they be “laced” into other drugs or a standalone substance. Although unknown in this particular incident, other overdoses have included pressed pills or drugs laced with fentanyl or carfentanil, both of which are powerful synthetic opioids.
