Because I chose to spend my Christmas with family down south last year, I had to book an flight out of Rochester. It was around 6AM when my plane started boarding, so needless to say, I was extremely ready for a jolt of caffeine by the time the flight attendant started pushing the beverage cart down the aisle. I ordered a cup of coffee and didn’t think anything of it.

That was apparently a huge mistake, according to this Vice article called Ten Questions You Always Wanted To Ask A Flight Attendant. When asked about the grossest thing on a plane that isn’t a bathroom, the flight attendant responded with the following:

“Coffee. Don’t drink the coffee on airplanes. It’s the same potable water that goes through the bathroom system. We recently had a test for E. coli in our water and it didn’t pass, and then maintenance came on and hit a couple buttons and it passed. So, avoid any hot water or tea. Bottled and ice is fine, of course.”

That is…hang on, one sec.

*rinses mouth out with bleach*

pretty gross. So consider this your official warning not to drink airplane coffee. Unless you’re cool with drinking toilet water. Not a fan, personally.
