The ground game was alive for the Lions, and after a fourth-down stand on the goal line, Spring Grove was able to use the momentum to take down Houston 28-6 in the Section 1 9-Man final last night.

Houston got on the board first after James Hongerholt found his way into the end zone to go ahead 6-0 in the first quarter, but the big-play offense that is Spring Grove came right back and Alex Folz found his way into the end zone to give Spring Grove a 7-0 lead.

Houston's defense stood tall for most of the first half, limiting the big plays, but the Lions were able to find the end zone again to take a 14-6 lead into the break.

In the second half is when things really opened up for the Spring Grove offense, and Folz was able to scamper for touchdowns of 68 and 51 yards to ice the game.

The Hurricanes on offense had a chance to put some points on the board and cut the lead down in the third quarter, but they failed to convert on a 4th-and-goal from the one that really swung the momentum into the Lions favor.

Folz ended the day with over 230 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while Hongerholt got the lone score for the Hurricanes.

Ben Walters played great for Houston, doing a little bit of everything from returning kicks, being the lead back in the offense as well as playing some stout defense.

The Lions return to the state tournament for the second year in a row as they will try to defend their State Title. The open the quarterfinals against Section 2 Champion Russel-Tyler-Ruthton Friday at 5 pm in New Ulm. You will be able to listen to the game on 103.1 KFIL!
