St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - A bill providing assistance to thousands of Minnesotans hit with huge health insurance premium increases is headed to the Governor’s desk.

The Minnesota House voted 108-19 this afternoon to approve the measure, which earlier won approval in the State Senate on a 47-19 vote.

The $327 million dollar package funds 25-percent rebates for the estimated 125,000 Minnesotans forced to purchase health insurance through MNsure or other avenues in the individual market who saw their premiums rise between 50 and 67-percent this year.

It also includes reform provisions sought by the Republicans now in control of both chambers of the legislature. One of the key reforms is language allow for-profit HMO’s to offer plans in the state’s individual market, which had been limited to non-profit organizations.
