Ball control was the gameplan for each of these teams playing on a cold night in Lanesboro. The Hurricanes held the ball for nearly the entire first quarter before the Burros were able to get a fourth-down stop. The first quarter ended with no scoring after a Burros turnover, but the Lanesboro defense was able to hold strong and get the football back to their offense

With great field position, the Burros were finally able to get into the endzone when J.T Rein ran in a 7-yard score to give the Burros a 6-0 lead with just 3:36 left in the half. The Hurricanes were able to get all the way down to the Burros 20-yard line before the half ended, but two key sacks by Lanesboro held the score at 6-0 at the break.

The third quarter was scoreless again as the defenses stood strong but after a short Houston punt, the Burros were set up with prime field position. Jake Gathje scored for 12 yards out to make ti 14-0 with just 9:02 remaining in the game.

Houston was able to move the ball in the second half behind some strong running from Caiden Olson, but the Lanesboro defense was just too tough to overcome. Houston and Lanesboro are ranked 1 and 2 in the distract for points scored, but it was the defense that shined Wednesday night.

Issac Heyer ran for 66 yards and Olson 67 to lead the Hurricanes who played well defensively. They were strong upfront and did a good job of limiting J.T Rein and Jake Gathje.

Hayden Lawstuen iced the game for Lanesboro down the stretch finishing with 44 yards on eight carries to lead Lanesboro en route to being named the Kingsley Mercantile Game Ball winner for Lanesboro. Issac Heyer was Player of the Game for Houston. Bodie Mayer, who was all over the field defensively and had an interception was Player of the game for Lanesboro.

Lanesboro finished their regular season 5-1, while Houston fell to 2-4. Section 1 9-man quarterfinals are scheduled to start on Tuesday.
