Friday, Cool 104 featured two of the better baseball programs in southeast Minnesota as the 8th-ranked La Crescent Lancers traveled to Chatfield to take on the Gophers.

La Crescent took advantage of a couple early walks and grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Things quickly took a wild turn. The Lancers extended their lead time and time again only to have the Gophers continue to fight back. Chatfield rallied from deficits of 4-0, 7-3, and 10-4 to tie the game at ten in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lancers scored once in the top of the sixth, and again Chatfield answered. With one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, we were on our way to extra innings tied 11-11.

In the first extra frame, La Crescent once again jumped in front with four runs, highlighted by a one out, bases-clearing double by Hayden Hoiness. Chatfield threatened by putting the first three on in the bottom half, scoring once, but Jakob Masterson then buckled down and struck out the next three giving the Lancers a 15-11 win in eight.

The Chatfield Player-of-the-Game was sophomore Ben Ihrke. Ben took the loss, but gutted out six innings on the mound, throwing 124 pitches and went 3-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored.

La Crescent's POG was Jakob Masterson. The junior was the front-runner for the award even before taking the mound as he knocked in five runs in his first three at-bats. He finished 3-5 with a double and pair of runs scored along with the 5 RBIs. He also got the win in relief, allowing just two runs in four innings and striking out five.

The next broadcast is Tuesday with high school softball! We feature Fillmore Central/Lanesboro at Grand Meadow/Le Roy-Ostrander/Kingsland. Game time 4:45 on Cool 104 & kvgo1043.com.
