My all time favorite country music star was born October 17, 1958 in Newman, Georgia. Happy birthday, Alan Jackson!

Earl Thomas Conley was also born on October 17 back in 1941.

In 1987, "Fishin' in the Dark", what a great tune!, was #1 on the Billboard charts for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

Back in 1989, San Francisco was the setting for game three of the World Series.  The Gatlin Brothers were scheduled to sing the national anthem prior to the start of the game. However, the city was rocked by a massive earthquake halting the proceedings.
