Study Gives Olmsted County an ‘F’ For Social Distancing
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A new report gives Olmsted County a failing grade for coronavirus social distancing.
The grades developed by the firm Unacast are based on information gleaned from anonymous cell phone data. Olmsted County was given F grades for a less than 55-percent reduction in non-essential visits and for less than a 40-percent decrease in what is termed encounter density compared to a national baseline. Olmsted County was also given a D for its reduction in average mobility, which was listed at 25 to 40-percent based on distance traveled.
Olmsted County’s best grade in the Unacast report was a B which was recorded in late March shortly after the Stay at Home order went into effect. At that time, the county’s reduction in average mobility was pegged at 55 to 70-percent.
The state as a whole has also seen its grade plummet. Minnesota was given an A grade in late March and is now given a D. The reports says the state's average reduction in mobility has dropped to 25 to 40-percent and non-essential visits are down less than 55-percent. Minnesota's best score was for the decrease in encounter density at between 74 and 82-percent for a C grade.
