Tuesday, Cool 104 broadcasted the Three Rivers baseball game between Southland and St. Charles.

We were treated to a beautiful day, and a very good contest. The St. Charles Saints entered play at the top of the TRC West division, and were going for the season sweep over the Southland Rebels.

The Saints grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Southland took a short-lived 2-1 lead in the top half of the third, scoring both runs without the benefit of a hit. The Saints tied the game at two in the bottom half of the same inning. In the home half of the fifth, St. Charles took the lead for good as they loaded the bases with no outs, and senior Cody Nicklay lined a 2-run single to left. Another run was soon tacked on, and St. Charles went on to the 5-2 victory. Southland brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh with two outs, but a foul pop-out ended the game. The win pushed the #10-ranked Saints record to 16-2, and gave the Saints at least a share of the TRC West title. Southland dropped to 6-10 on the season.

The ‘Player of the Game’ for Southland was senior Josh Anderson. Josh was 2-2 at the plate, reaching base in all three trips to the plate. He also pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to help keep the Rebels in striking distance. For St. Charles, it was junior Justin Ruhberg. Ruhberg notched the win with a complete game, allowing just one earned run and four hits while striking out 8.
