Maddy Freking, Minnesota Little Leaguer, Shows She Belongs

The Andover-Coon Rapids team in this year's Little League World Series (LLWS) won their game Thursday, and on Saturday got beat 11-0 to a very talented Virginia team. While they play as a team, one player on Andover-Coon Rapids squad has gotten plenty of attention, her name is Maddy Freking. On Saturday, after being down early, she came in to pitch, and she opened a few eyes both pitching and fielding her position. 

Maddy was in a bases-loaded jam down 8-0 early in the game Saturday against the Southeast Little League representatives from Virginia. With one out Maddy was facing a batter in a 2-2 count. The young man was sat down on the next pitch as he struck out looking. Watch her blow this pitch by him!

As you can see she can also field her position with that play at the plate. Normally Freking plays 2nd base.

Freking who is 12 became the female player to pitch in a LLWS game, and the "19th to play in a game in the 72-year history" of the LLWS according to this USA Today story. The last young lady to pitch in a game was back in 2014 with Mo'Ne Davis.

Freking is also the first Minnesotan female player to make the LLWS since 1994's Krissy Wendell. Wendell's maiden name is Pohl and she ended up as the captain of the U.S. women's hockey Olympic team later on.

Good Morning America even did an interview with Freking that aired yesterday.

The Minnesota team next plays tonight at 7 P.M. on ESPN 2 against the Southwest team from River Ridge, Louisiana.
