Minnesota Twins Dump Catcher for Sharing Signs with Batters
The Minnesota Twins have parted ways with a minor league catcher after he was accused of sharing pitching calls with opposing batters.
Friday was Derek Bender's final day with the Twins organization following a report on ESPN that he was advising batters from the other team of incoming pitch selections -- while a member of the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, a Class A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.
According to the report by ESPN, Bender wanted the season to be over, uninterested in extending things into the Class A post season.
Bender was the Twins’ sixth-round draft pick this past July out of Coastal Carolina University.
For the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, the season is indeed over. It's probably the same for Derek Bender's baseball career.
