Urgent: Over 100 Pets at At One Illinois Shelter Need Homes Immediately
After a major intake of animals over Labor Day weekend put their cages at critical capacity, Winnebago County Animal Services in Rockford, Illinois is waiving the adoption fee for over 100 dogs and cats at the shelter.
Pet Adopters Urgently Needed in Rockford
Less than two weeks ago, Winnebago County Animal Services issued an urgent plea for adopters after they dog cages hit "critical" capacity levels, and now the Labor Day weekend left them in an ever more dire situation.
Two weeks ago the shelter said they were "facing difficult decisions in regards to space and lifesaving", and hearing that as a pet lover absolutely broke my heart. Today, my heart broke again when I saw WCAS use the same words and then added this to it;
We know we have reached out before but this has been the highest we have seen the population all year.
So how high is the pet population at Winnebago County Animal Services right now? As of Tuesday morning they have 100 dogs and 80 cats in need of loving homes.
You guys, this makes me so sad and desperate to help! PLEASE, if you have ever considered adopting a cat or dog before, make this the time to do it!
They have dogs and cats of all shapes, sizes, colors, and breeds, I'm positive you will be able to find one that will be a perfect fit for you and your family!
If you've never adopted an animal from Winnebago County Animal Services before, here's a few important things you should know:
- Even when the adoption fee is waived, potential adopters still need to fill out an application to be approved.
- All adoptions, (even when the fee is waived), include a wellness exam, spay or neuter, microchip, vaccinations including a one year rabies shot, flea and tick preventative, and more.
- If you have other pets in the home they need to be brought to the shelter to be introduced to your potential new pet.
- The best way to streamline the adoption process is to fill out an application in advance at winnebagoanimals.org.
Please give these amazing animals the loving homes they so richly deserve...doing so will bring you so much joy, I promise!
