You know that moment you step outside and suddenly the smell of grilled hotdogs hits you?  That's an obvious sign it's getting nicer outside, right?

The weather gets nicer, people are exercising outside more, sitting on their porches every day and night, and tons of local events are happening every single weekend—those are all great signs that summer is near.

The #1 sign we can tell summer is actually upon us? You can probably guess.

ORANGE CONES EVERYWHERE.

Don't get me wrong, I love summer in Rockford.  We've got City Market, live music at every bar, and the splash pads are open.  But to get to all of those you have to go through some insane construction zones.

One day, Mulford Road is torn up from the floor up.  Next day, it's all of Charles Street.  So many detours, traffic is congested, and god forbid there's an accident.  It's a literal maze to get anywhere in a timely fashion from May through July.

Orange construction cones are the unofficial sign that summer is right around the corner.  We may not like it, but at least the roads are getting fixed!  So, if you're driving around and wondering why there are an ungodly amount of orange cones everywhere, even in places that don't make sense, don't worry.  The city is just making our potholes less "pohole-y".  Is that even a word?  It is now.
