
These 8 MN Stores Are Now the Best for Back-to-School Shopping
Back-to-school shopping doesn’t have to break the bank... if you know where to go. A new study reveals the five stores in Minnesota where stocking up on your kids’ supplies is the cheapest, and the price differences might surprise you.
Minnesota may be known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, but we're also apparently the Land of 800,000 students. That's according to recent information from Ballotpedia, which says Minnesota had 821,260 students enrolled in a total of 2,014 schools in 331 school districts in 2022.
And according to Minnesota Compass, just under a third of all households in the North Star State (just under 29 percent) will have at least one student enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12th grade during the upcoming school year.

And all those students need school supplies, which is why back-to-school shopping is big business for retailers. CapitalOne says back-to-school spending reached nearly $135.5 billion in 2023. That's a lot! So if you still have to hit the stores before the kids head back to class, here are five places where back-to-school shopping is the cheapest in Minnesota.
The crew over at FinanceBuzz researched what it costs to buy common school supplies at some of the country's largest retailers. Specifically, they selected common back-to-school supply lists for elementary, middle, and high school students and then looked at prices online for each of the 20 items from different retailers.

And the cheapest place to shop for back-to-school supplies this year? FinanceBuzz says It's a place that currently has 65 locations across the Gopher State: Walmart!
Specifically, FinanceBuzz noted that Walmart offered the highest savings of any retail chain they analyzed, with the cost for elementary school supplies coming in at $27.07, the cost for middle school supplies was $38.15, and the cost for high school supplies running $30.51. All together, the total cost at Walmart was $54.21.
