Monday night’s unanimous vote paved the way for the city to scrap the current 30 minute and 90 minute limits at street parking meters.
Some meters will have a three hour parking limit while others will no longer have a maximum time allowed for a parked vehicle.
The change takes effect for meters stationed at 35 different locations throughout the downtown area, the agenda item indicates.
City officials say the process to convert the meters to reflect the new time limits will take several months to implement due to the upcoming winter and different parking meter technology on the downtown’s streets.
Earlier this year, the city council approved the 2025 city fee schedule that included increasing the price per hour of metered parking from $1.50 to $2.
Parking in downtown Rochester’s ramps is free on weekends, after 5 p.m. on weeknights and up to one hour anytime of day.
