The Wanamingo Jacks did not survive their first game at the MBA State Amatuer Baseball Tournament, falling 9-4 today to the St. Boni Saints in Belle Plaine.

The Saints broke open a 3-2 lead with back-to-back 3 run innings in the 5th and 6th while the Jacks could never generate a crooked number in any inning.

St. Boni tallied 11 hits and played error free.  Wanamingo achieved 7 hits with 3 errors.  The Jacks left 7 runners on base and Saints had 6 left.

Alex Roosen started on the mound for Wanamingo, going 4 innings with 8 hits allowed, 6 runs, 5 earned, walked 1 struck out 3 batters throwing 64 pitches, 44 strikes.

The Saints had two batters smack solo home runs off Roosen.  Michael Barnes and Hawken Hedlund finished the day with 3 RBI.  Hedlund had a double and triple also and Barnes clubbed a double.

Wanamingo had draftees pitch the rest of the game. Landon Stoppelmoor of Plainview went 2 innings, giving up 3 hits, 3 runs, all earned, 1 walk.  Beau Zimmerman of Cannon Falls fame threw 2 innings of no hit ball with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.  Dayne Louis of Rochester Roadrunners got through the final inning with no damage.

Barnes was starting pitcher for Saints going 6 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, both earned, no walks, 5 strikeouts.  Alex Roosen hammered a solo home run off him.

Ryan Grams, draft pick from Brownton went 2 innings, giving up 3 hits, 2 runs, both earned with 1 walk, 1 strikeout.  Paulie Nathanson ended the game on the hill walking 2 in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Alex Roosen had 3 hits and scored 2 runs, Gavin Summer knocked in 2 runs, Jacob Glarner had 2 hits and an RBI.

The Jacks finish their season 19-8,  St. Boni is now 22-21 and faces New Ulm Brewers 6:30 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2024 in Green Isle.

In other Saturday action, Waterville Indians cruised to a 8-1 win over the Morris Eagles in Green Isle.  The Indians broke open a 2-1 lead with 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning and never looked back.

The first three batters in the Waterville lineup (Bladyn Bartelt, Josh Cook, Luke Sellner) all had 2 hits and drove in a total of 5 runs while the team cranked out 10 hits.  Morris managed 4 total hits.  Both teams had 1 error and both left 9 runners on base.

Dallas McBroom got the win for Waterville, throwing 6 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 unearned run, walked 4 and struck out 5 Eagles batters,  Evan Furst, draftee from St. Clair tossed 3 innings of one hit ball with 1 walk, 1 strikeout.

Dalton Grose hammered a solo home run for the Indians who are dedicating their season to fallen teammate Shane Sellner.

The 28 year old passed away in June from cardiac arrest.  A GoFundMe page has been set up to benefit his wife Amanda and their two young sons.

At latest check today (August 17, 2024) over 1,100 donors have raised $115,318 dollars of the $125,000 goal.

Amanda and Shane's second son was born shortly after his passing,  Sellner was a standout baseball player at Mankato Loyola HIgh School before going on to play more at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall,

The Webster Sox saw their season end with a 8-1 loss to the Buckman Billygoats in Jordan.

Billygoats scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning and added 5 runs in the 7th in their dominate performance.  Buckman totaled 11 hits, Webster 7 hits.  The Sox had 2 errors left 3 runners on base.  Billygoats committed one error, stranded 6 runners.

Austin Isaacson knocked in Webster's lone run with a double in the top of the third inning giving them a brief lead.  William Arendt was the only Sox player with multiple hits (2).

Jordan Huwe started on the mound for Webster, going 3 and 2/3 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 runs, all earned with 3 walks, 3 strikeouts.  Ryan Wattermann, draft pick from Prior Lake Mudcats went the next 2 and 1/3 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, walked 2.  Ryan Joyner in one inning gave up 3 hits, 3 runs, all earned with no walks or strikeouts and Joseph Malecha of Lonsdale Aces got the 8th inning with 1 hit and 1 fanning.

Benjamin Thoma collected 5 RBI on two hits including a homer run.  Matt Tautges went the distance on the hill for the Billygoats and was 3 of 4 at the plate while leading off in the order.

Thoma struck out 6 while throwing 92 pitches, 70 strikes.

Friday night Union Hill Bulldogs ended the St. Peter Saints season 9-3 in Belle Plaine.

The Bulldogs overcame a 2-0 deficit with a 5 run third inning and added 3 more in the 6th.  Union Hill had 9 hits, no errors, St. Peter 8 hits, 4 errors.

Will Busch led the Bulldogs at the plate with 3 hits including a double, 2RBI.  Conrad Masberg added a pair of hits with an RBI.  Nate Lee knocked in a pair of runs with a double.

Charlie Otteson earned the win while throwing 4 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, both earned, 1 walk.  Jake Hemann threw 3 innings of 1 hit ball with 2 walks, 6 strikeouts and Tanner Nordrun finished the game allowing 1 hit in 1 inning, a run, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts.

Class B competition Friday Miesville rolled over Minneapolis Mudcats in 7 innings, 11-0.

The Mudhens had 12 hits, Mudcats 4 hits in the error free game.  Miesville stranded 9 runners and Minneapolis left 5 runners on base.

Four batters stroked 2 hits each for Miesville including Ben Vujovich with a home run, 2 RBI, Alex Hendrickson had two hits and RBI, Ronnie Sweeny, pair of hits including a double, one RBI, Deryk Marks, two hits, RBI.  Max Gamm knocked in 2 runs.

Quinn Kruger went the distance on the mound allowing 4 hits in 7 innings, walked 2, struck out 8 while throwing 100 pitches, 62 strikes.

Lyon's Pub Warriors ended New Market Muskies season 6-5 in Jordan.

The Muskies had a 4-2 lead when Warriors erupted with 4 runs.  New Market had 10 hits and 3 errors, Lyon's Pub 6 hits, 1 error.  Warriors left 12 runners and Muskies 9 runners on base.

Alex Berreth led New Market with 4 hits including a double, home run,  He was a triple shy of the cycle knocking in 3 runs.

Zach Dohrmann started pitching for the Muskies going 5 and 1/3 innings with 5 hits given up, 2 runs, both earned, 5 walks, 7 strikeouts, throwing 95 pitches, 57 strikes. Ezra Formaneck threw an inning of no hit ball with 3 earned runs allowed, 4 walks, 1 strikeout, throwing 32 pitches, 14 strikes,  Ethan Bombardier finished the final 1 and 2/3 innings with a hit, earned run, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Bombardier had 46 pitches, 25 strikes.

Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Elko Express tangles with Minneapolis Cobras in Shakopee while at the same time Dundas Dukes face St. Louis Park Pirates in Green Isle.

Rochester Royals play Minneapolis Angels 1:30 p.m. in Green Isle.

LeSueur Braves open their first tournament action in over two decades in Belle Plaine Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. against Madison Mallards.
