MBA State Tournament Opens This Weekend
The Wanamingo Jacks begin MBA State Tournament action Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Belle Plaine. The 19-7 Jacks go up against the St. Boni (Bonifacious) Saints who have a record of 21-21.
It's a tough draw for the Twin Rivers League champion Wanamingo team. The Saints go marching in with a team batting average of .285, Cranking out an average of just under 10 hits and just over 6 runs a game.
The Saints have 94 extra base hits of their 407 hit total this season. The Crow River Valley North team is 74 of 90 in stolen bases with 22 home runs.
St. Boni pitching has a team earned run average of 4.86 with opposing hitters batting .249 against them while scoring an identical 270 runs on 341 hits.
Opponents are 58 of 70 in stolen bases against the Saints who have committed 88 errors this season.
No statistics are available for Wanamingo. The Jacks were in the others receiving votes category of the final Class C amateur baseball rankings compiled by various individuals from around the state.
Fellow Crow River Valley North members Watertown Red Devils and Waconia Lakers were rated #8 and #10 respectively in the final regular season poll.
The Waterville Indians have dedicated their season to fallen teammate Shane Sellner, age 28, who passed away suddenly in June from a cardiac arrest with his wife, Amanda delivering their second child shortly after his death. Another son.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for his family. Sellner graduated from Mankato Loyola High School and played baseball at Southwest Minnesota State.
I know the thousands of KDHL/POWER 96 and KRFO/KAT KOUNTRY 105 listeners in the Faribault/Owatonna areas will assist in this time of difficulty for his young family.

Dakota-Rice-Scott (DRS) League Webster is 13-6 according to their MBA page. The Billygoats record is 18-4. They play in he Victory North/East league.
Union Hill Bulldogs were Region 3C second place finishers and drafted Joe Grote of the Faribault Lakers. They open against St. Peter Saints 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2024 in Belle Plaine.
The Saints play in the River Valley League.
Other Friday game includes Hanska Lakers and Waconia Lakers splashing against each other in Green Isle at 7:30 p.m.
Class B action Friday night features top ranked Miesville Mudhens going up against Minneapolis MudCats 7:30 p.m. in Shakopee while New Market Muskies compete against Lyon's Pub Warriors in Jordan.
Sunday a number of area teams participate with Dundas Dukes going up against St. Louis Park Pirates 11:00 a.m. in Green Isle.
Elko Express and Faribault High School graduate, former major league pitcher Jake Petricka open with Minneapolis Cobras 11:00 a.m. in Shakopee.
Rochester Royals compete against Minneapolis Angels 1:30 p.m. in Green Isle.
