Hayfield Girls Defeat Bethlehem Academy in Faribault

The Hayfield Vikings connected on eight three point baskets compared to Bethlehem Academy's three tonight in a 58 to 43 win at Van Orsow Auditorium on the BA campus.

It was Hayfield's second game and the Cardinals first game of the season. A two possession game existed with just under three minutes to go.

The Vikings had 3 players in double figures, For Bethlehem Academy two players hit double digits.

The halftime score was Hayfield 26, Bethlehem Academy 19.

The Vikings knocked down four three point baskets while the Cardinals had 1.  BA went 4 for 6 from the free throw line while Hayfield shot no first half free throws.

Both teams did play some pressure defense.  Bethlehem Academy scored 12 points off 20 Hayfield turnovers while the Vikings cashed in for 20 points off 19 Cardinals turnovers in the game.

Final free throw totals were BA 6 of 13, Hayfield 4 of 9.

Cardinals post players, seniors Morgan Wilson and Liv Glumack combined for 20 points (Wilson 12, Glumack 8).  Jocelyn Simones, senior, led the team with 12 points including two three point baskets.

Hayfield was paced by Lily Morrisey, junior, with 17 points, Maggie Hanson had 11 and Jenna Christopherson, sophomore, 10 points.

Hayfield opened their season with a 68-47 loss against Mayer Lutheran to start their season so that experience had to help them in the Gopher Conference East Division opener.

Bethlehem Academy hosts Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 while Hayfield goes to Southland Monday, December 2, 2024, then heads to Spring Grove on Tuesday.
