Jake Petricka, Faribault High School graduate and former major league baseball pitcher threw well but his Elko Express team lost 4-3 to the Minneapolis Cobras in a ten inning thriller at 2024 MBA Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament.

Petricka's pitching line officially states he threw 6 innings with 6 hits given up, 2 runs, 1 earned, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts while throwing 95 pitches, 66 strikes.

He threw to the first two batters of the 7th inning before being replaced by Easton Richter   A single and a fielder's choice error allowed a runner to advance to third base when the first batter Richter faced put down a bunt, Richter tagged him out but a run scored to make it 3-2 Elko on top.

Minneapolis scored another run in the 8th inning and the game went into extra innings where the Cobras slithered in walk-off fashion on a run producing single in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Both teams tallied 10 hits. Elko left 13 runners, Cobras 11 runners on the bases.  The Express had 4 errors, Minneapolis 1 error in the Sunday game at Shakopee.

Elko ends their season 23-10.  Minneapolis will play Champlin Park Saturday, August 24, 2024, 11:00 a.m. in Jordan.

In another Class B contest the Dundas Dukes season ended after a 8 inning 15-5 loss to the St. Louis Park Pirates.

A 1-1 tie was broken in the bottom of the third inning when the Pirates erupted for 5 runs.  They would add 5 more in the 6th and ended the game in the 8th inning with 3 more runs.

Frank Vogel started pitching for Dundas, lasting 2 2/3 innings with 7 hits allowed, 6 runs, all earned, 2 walks.  Sawyer Hoffman threw the next 3 innings with 6 runs given up, 5 earned, 6 hits, 4 walks, 2 strikeouts.  Matt Neuger ended the game, going 2 innings with 5 hits, 3 runs, all earned, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts.

Each Dukes pitcher gave up a home run in the game played in Green Isle.

Vogel had 2 hits for Dundas including a triple and RBI. Kenyon-Wanamingo graduate Drew Sathrum had a pair of hits and scored.  Nate Van Roekel clubbed 3 hits including a double with 2 RBI.  Carson Jones also hit a double and scored.

The Dukes finished their season 14-19.

The Rochester Royals cruised by the Minneapolis Angels 11-1 in 8 innings in Green Isle today. (Sunday, August 18, 2024)

Gabe Pilla and Thane Meiners pitched in the lopsided affair with Pilla giving up 2 hits over 7 innings, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 11 strikeouts.  Meiners went one inning with a walk.  Pilla threw 93 pitches, 65 strikes.  Meiners, 14 pitches, 7 strikes.

Logan Milene collected 2 hits including a home run with 2 RBI, Meiners 2 hits including a double with 1 RBI.  Easton Fritcher (of Hayfield High School fame and current Minnesota Gopher baseball player who earned All-Academic Big 10 honors last season) stroked a run producing double.  Hayden Brown also hammered a home run for 2 RBI for the Royals.

Rochester will play Air Freight Unlimited Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Belle Plaine.

In Class C action the LeSueur Braves out of Region 6C upended the Madison Mallards 10-4 in Belle Plaine.

The Braves advance to Sunday, August 25, 2024 in Green Isle against perennial power Bird Island Bullfrogs at 4:00 p.m.
