DNR Seeking Comments on Mille Lacs Wildlife Management Area Plan

ONAMIA (WJON News) -- A large and popular wildlife management area is getting a master plan update and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wants the public to weigh in.

The Mille Lacs Wildlife Management Area was established in 1949 and has about 100 miles of roads and trails and 80 public access points. It sits on 39,000 acres of land in Mille Lacs and Kanabec counties. It is a popular hunting and wildlife-watching destination.

The DNR says the original plan was developed in 1977 and the update will incorporate "current ecological conditions and public attitudes about how the land should be managed" moving forward.

There is an in-person event at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Zimmerman on Tuesday, October 17th, and an online meeting on Tuesday, October 24th. Both meetings are from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
