Woman on Walk Stabbed at Rochester Intersection
Update: Charges Filed Against Rochester Stabbing Suspect
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester Police responded to a stabbing at a southeast Rochester intersection Friday evening.
Police Captain Casey Moilanen said Monday morning the victim was a 25-year-old woman from Rochester. She was stabbed in the back.
The stabbing occurred at the intersection of 8 ½ St. and 15th Ave. Southeast shortly before 6:15 p.m. Moilanen said the suspected assailant, identified as 26-year-old Abdulkadir Ali of Rochester, reported the stabbing to dispatchers as he fled the intersection on foot towards Cub Foods.
Responding officers found Ali near Cub with a knife on the ground next to him. The police report indicates Ali admitted to stabbing the woman and said the knife on the ground belonged to him.
Moilanen said Ali told officers he suffers from schizophrenia and that he was planning to stab someone or run someone over for several months. The victim and Ali do not know each other, Moilanen said.
Ali was jailed on suspicion of felony second-degree assault and is awaiting arraignment in Olmsted County Court.
The victim was brought from the scene to a hospital. Moilanen described her stab wounds as non-life-threatening.
