Preliminary information indicates the Rochester Fire Department responded to the single-vehicle crash around 7:25 Monday morning. Two people were inside of the vehicle.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Valley High Dr. and 15th St. Northwest. Photos from the scene show the crash happened across the street from the Valleyhigh Post Office.
The Rochester Police Department announced Valley High was closed between 14th St. and 21st Ave. Northwest. The road has since reopened.
Rochester Police Department Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson says the initial investigation indicates an SUV struck a tree then the building. Preliminary information indicates the driver suffered serious injuries.
First responders also asked for the city’s building inspector’s office to respond to assess the structural integrity of the apartment building. A photo at the scene shows a corner chunk of the apartment building appeared to have been taken out by the crash.
Initial reports indicate no one was inside of the apartment at the time of the collision. Grayson says the crash is under investigation by the Rochester Police Department's Forensic Mapping Unit.
Story updated to reflect the reopening of Valley High Dr. NW.
