Elgin, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities in Wabasha County have issued a shelter in place order.

So far limited information is available. Preliminary information released Tuesday morning by the Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office indicates the order and heavy law enforcement presence is due to an accident.

Shelter in Place Order Issued West of Elgin as Law Enforcement Searches for Suspect Who Fled Accident Scene
The shelter in place order is in effect for an area west of Elgin. Authorities say a black male fled the scene of an accident two miles west of Elgin on Wabasha County Rd. 25.
Law enforcement is currently involved in an active search for the male. Authorities have deployed canines and drones as part of the search effort.
The Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office is telling residents to expect a “high law enforcement presence.” Residents living in a one-square mile area of the crash scene are being told to “lock down and be on alert.”
ALERT - CAUTION - WEST OF ELGIN AREA: There is an active search by law enforcement for a black male that has fled the scene of an accident 2 miles west of Elgin on County Road 25. Drones and canines have been activated and are in use. Expect a high law enforcement presence. If you live in a 1 mile perimeter of this area please lock down and be on alert. If you see anyone that matches this description or anything suspicious, please call 911 immediately.
Anyone who sees a person matching the suspect’s description or any suspicious activity is urged to call 911.
