The lane closures are for a future project and the I-90 detours are related to projects that began earlier this year.
All three traffic disruptions are scheduled to start on Monday. The lane closures are set to end Tuesday afternoon while the I-90 overnight detours will conclude on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Lane Closures Expected to Cause Traffic Delays at Busy Rochester Intersection Monday and Tuesday
A MnDOT news release says crews will conduct pavement tests at the intersection of Hwy. 14 and South Broadway Ave. in Rochester.
The closures run from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. The testing will occur in the turn lanes and on the shoulders of the intersecting roads.
MnDOT says the lane closures will change as the testing work progresses. Previous estimates indicate 50,000 vehicles pass through the intersection daily.
A project to improve the busy Rochester intersection is slated to start in 2027.
Overnight Detour Begins Monday Night on I-90 Near Stewartville
An overnight detour on I-90 near Stewartville is scheduled to start Monday evening and end by Wednesday morning.
MnDOT says the closure and detour is to allow crews to set bridge beams on the new Olmsted County Rd. 35 overpass. I-90 will be closed in both directions from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m.
The following detour will be in place during the overnight closures:
I-90 eastbound motorists:
Take exit 205 to Olmsted County Road 6, travel east to Highway 63 north, travel through Stewartville to I-90.
I-90 westbound motorists:
Take exit 209A to Highway 63, travel south to Olmsted County Road 6, and travel west to I-90.
I-90 will be reopened during the daytime hours on Tuesday. MnDOT says a similar detour will occur when crews pour the bridge deck on the new overpass, however that date has not yet been scheduled.
Overnight I-90 Detour Starts Monday Evening in Austin
Further west, I-90 traffic will be detoured overnight in Austin. MnDOT says the interstate traffic will be routed up then down the interchange with Oakland Ave. from 8 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
The closure and detour is to allow crews to pour a new bridge deck. It's part of a multi-year project to reconstruct six bridges on the I-90 corridor through the Mower County city.
